About

Hello everyone!

PopCrunchBoom Books is a book review/writing focused blog about books, reading, writing, and everything literature related in between. As I venture forth through my twenties I wanted to leave behind a trail of writers and works that have influenced me during this hectic, fun-filled decade of growing! My book choices range from class assignments, to “books to read before you die,” to IMG_6427inexpensive Kindle finds. I mostly read YA fiction, but have recently found myself gulping down some creative non-fiction (specifically memoirs). Mostly I try to read anything I can get my hands on! I prowl through used book stores, the local library, some favorite indie book stores and Barnes & Noble; although, recently I’ve been combing through the digital world of Amazon with my Kindle Fire. I’ve been stumbling upon some great finds (and of course some not so great ones) in the digital world.

With PopCrunchBoom Books, I also hope to steer readers in the direction of some great works and get others excited about reading again! I love discussion (since I’m obsessed with reading and everyone loves to talk about their obsessions!) so please feel free to comment on any of my posts about the works I’ve read or even with recommendations (something I’m always looking for!). Sometimes books need to be experienced in a community sense–outside of my comfy chair by the fire with a cup of tea.

When writing my posts I always try to be as honest as I can about the work–giving a fair this was good, this was bad for each work. I rarely come across a book that I absolutely hate–I always try to see what the author did good whether it be a good concept or a strong character. However, those few books that I do dislike immensely will also end up here for an honest representation of what I’m reading (but my post won’t be just a long paragraph of bashing).

  1. I see you’ve started to read Just Kids. Try and make it a point to get any art book that has Robert Mapplethorpe’s work. He was just a brilliant photographer. I am not a fan of Patti Smith’s music, but she does have some books of poetry that are also interesting.

    1. I will definitely do that! I didn’t know much about either Robert or Patti, but their story sounded very interesting so I wanted to read Just Kids. So far its very good! When I get around to a book with Robert’s photography, I’ll be sure to do a post of my favorites! Through Just Kids, they both seem like very interesting and thought-provoking people. I can definitely tell Patti was a poet with the way she has phrased certain things in the book so far. Have you read Just Kids?

      1. Sorry for the delayed response. I did read Just Kids. I read it because it had the the national Book Award, and I had know of Mapplethorpe. I’m glad I read it. It’s always interesting to see what makes a creative mind tick; in this case, both of them. It was also interesting how Patti got into music, when writing was really her passion.

      2. I’m happy I read it as well! It was a fabulous insight into New York at that time as well as a look into the mind of an artist. Thank you for your card! I really appreciate the gesture and it’s hanging on my wall at school!
