Waiting on Wednesday (16): Bright Smoke, Cold Fire

Hello lovelies!

Being sick sucks! My cold has kind of put me out of commission blogging wise. Mainly I’ve been just working on school stuff and my actual job while also trying to get better. So I’m hoping next week I can write up some more reviews for you. Trust me I have a mile long list of reviews I need to do for you all haha. So please bare with me and stay tuned! ๐Ÿ™‚

Otherwise, I hope you’re all having a great week! See below for what I can’t wait to get my hands on this week ๐Ÿ˜‰

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly eventย hosted by Breaking the Spine, where you can highlight upcoming releases that you are eagerly anticipating!

What I’m waiting on:

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire
byย Rosamund Hodge

28448239Synopsisย (via GoodReads):ย When the mysterious fog of the Ruining crept over the world, the living died and the dead rose. Only the walled city of Viyara was left untouched.

The heirs of the cityโ€™s most powerfulโ€”and warringโ€”families, Mahyanai Romeo and Juliet Catresou share a love deeper than duty, honor, even life itself. But the magic laid on Juliet at birth compels her to punish the enemies of her clanโ€”and Romeo has just killed her cousin Tybalt. Which means he must die.

Paris Catresou has always wanted to serve his family by guarding Juliet. But when his ward tries to escape her fate, magic goes terribly wrongโ€”killing her and leaving Paris bound to Romeo. If he wants to discover the truth of what happened, Paris must delve deep into the city, ally with his worst enemy . . . and perhaps turn against his own clan.

Mahyanai Runajo just wants to protect her cityโ€”but sheโ€™s the only one who believes itโ€™s in peril. In her desperate hunt for information, she accidentally pulls Juliet from the mouth of deathโ€”and finds herself bound to the bitter, angry girl. Runajo quickly discovers Juliet might be the one person who can help her recover the secret to saving Viyara.

Both pairs will find friendship where they least expect it. Both will find that Viyara holds more secrets and dangers than anyone ever expected. And outside the walls, death is waiting. . . .

  • I have to admit that Romeo & Juliet is not a favorite play/story of mine. BUT this twist on the classic tale has me very very intrigued.
  • I love that Hodge as put this twist on a classic tale in a fantasy/distopian like setting! I’m interested in seeing how Hodge creates this world.
  • I’m also very intrigued by the idea of friendships over romance to help “save the day”. I’m so interested to see how all these characters interact and develop!

  1. I hope you feel better soon! I haven’t read anything by Rosamund Hodge yet but this one intrigues me as well. A Romeo & Juliet re-telling if done well can make for a really good story. Kinda creepy having all the dead rise too so def checking this one out. Great pick for this wks WOW! for this week I chose The Valiant by Lesley Livingston ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Yes it definitely has a twist to the Romeo & Juliet tale from what I can tell from the summary so I’m intrigued in how it will play out!

  2. I am dying to read this one as well. Rosamund Hodge is one of my favourites and the whole Romeo and Juliet retelling aspect is so exciting! I hope that we both enjoy this one! ๐Ÿ™‚
